CHARX connect advanced – CCS inlet with integrated charging control
With CHARX connect advanced, Phoenix Contact presents the world’s first CCS vehicle charging inlet with fully integrated DC charging control. The solution combines the inlet and control unit into a single component, thereby significantly reducing the need for external control devices, cabling, and system complexity. The result is a compact, efficient, and future-proof architecture for high-power charging.

Integrated Control in the Inlet
All charging communication takes place via a PLC directly within the inlet. This completely eliminates the need for an external charging controller. All relevant charging protocols (including ISO 15118 and DIN 70121) are already integrated. Vehicle manufacturers no longer need to develop their own communication interfaces, which significantly reduces integration effort and accelerates system development.

Benefits for Vehicle Development and Operation
CHARX connect advanced saves installation space, weight, and costs by reducing the number of components and interfaces. At the same time, it lowers the risk of errors in the overall system. The integrated solution simplifies procurement, coordination, and certification, as fewer suppliers and interfaces are required.

Technical Capabilities and Applications
The CCS inlet is designed for demanding applications such as electric buses, electric trucks, and commercial and off-road vehicles. It supports up to 800 A in boost mode, 200–400 A continuously, and a rated DC voltage of 1,000 V. It supports CCS Type 1 and 2 as well as VDV 261 for bus applications. In addition, the system is prepared to meet ISO 26262 ASIL B and UNECE R155/R156 cybersecurity requirements.

Modular Design and Serviceability
The modular plug-in system allows for flexible cable outlets (straight, 90° left/right) as well as various cross-sections and lengths. The plug-in AC and DC cables can be replaced without tools during service. This reduces maintenance time and significantly increases vehicle availability. Additional features such as an LED status indicator, lighting, a charging cancel button, and a protective cover improve usability.
