The plug-in connection for energy storage systems


A sustainable use of renewable energies, such as solar or wind can be achieved through the use of energy storage systems (ESS) only. With a time delay they enable the use of the energy generated as needed. For the optimal and modular construction of an energy storage system made of lithium-ion cells, Harting has developed the Han® S single-pole connector series, which can transmit rated currents of up to 200 amps and 1500 volts.

Maximum safety with a great design

The red color for the positive pole and black for the negative pole and the additional mechanical coding prevent incorrect plugging in any case and offer advantages for service and maintenance. During assembly, the touch-proof contacts are inserted into the high-quality, 360° rotatable plastic housing and then screwed in place. The use of the Harting-typical locking clip is intuitively accessible.

Compliance with all relevant UL standards

The search for a high-current battery connector that meets the relevant UL and railway standards has finally come to an end. The Han® S is the first of its kind to meet the following standards, among others:

  • UL 4128 for connectors in electrochemical applications
  • UL 1973 for batteries in stationary applications and emergency power supply in vehicles
  • UL 9540 for energy storage systems and accessories
  • Relevant railway standards for shock and vibration safety

The connector series is supplemented by a bus bar pin contact in red and black. This is used to connect the battery management module (BMS) in each storage cabinet to the control line in order to send status messages to the system control.
